This is a deliriously entertaining example of the Mexican cabaretera genre, which fused melodrama with propulsive music and wild dance routines to tell racy, nightclub-set tales of women forced through misfortune into crime. Here, the sensual Cuban star Ninón Sevilla plays Elena, an innocent young woman tricked into prostitution by a brothel madam who has scandalous secrets of her own.
