Oklahoma oil worker John finds bus tickets to Los Angeles, meant for his wife Syd and brother Cody. A confrontation leads to John shooting Cody, seemingly killing him. When Syd returns home, she suffocates Cody, disposing of the body. As Sheriff Rose Vile investigates, Syd and John flee to Texas to start a new life.
